The CMA team working around a conference table

Careers · Sales Sales Intern

Sell to Dallas business owners in person, by phone and by email.

About the role

You will work the front of the pipeline with CMA’s Head of Sales: making cold calls, working the hot leads and email leads that come in, meeting owners face to face around Dallas-Fort Worth, and booking the ones who fit onto the founder’s calendar. You earn a base rate by the hour plus commission with no cap, so the business you bring in shows up in your pay.

What you will do

  • Make cold calls to owner-led businesses that match the firm’s ideal client
  • Work hot leads the same day they come in from the website, referrals and events
  • Answer and follow up on email leads with messages written for each business
  • Meet owners in person around Dallas-Fort Worth: drop-ins, networking events and follow-up visits
  • Qualify fit honestly and book intro calls with the founder
  • Keep the pipeline current in the client portal, with a next step and a date on every deal
  • Bring your numbers and open deals to the weekly pipeline review

Requirements

  • Fluent spoken and written English, with strong grammar, spelling and punctuation
  • Clear, professional communication by email, phone and video call
  • Organized and dependable: you meet deadlines without being chased
  • Your own laptop and reliable high-speed internet
  • At least 18 years old and authorized to work in the United States
  • Able to work as an independent contractor and provide a W-9
  • Real experience reaching out to people and moving them to a decision, in sales, business development, recruiting, fundraising or customer-facing work. There is no minimum number of years.
  • Results you can walk us through that show you can do this role: who you contacted, how, and what came of it
  • Confident on the phone and in person with business owners, including calls and visits they did not expect
  • Reliable transportation for in-person meetings with owners, around DFW or in your own local market if you are remote
  • Coachable and steady: you can hear no many times and stay professional
  • Comfortable keeping records in a CRM or spreadsheet

Nice to have

  • Studying or holding a degree in business, marketing or communications
  • Experience in field or door-to-door sales, selling to business owners, or with a CRM such as HubSpot or Salesforce
  • Interest in how small and mid-size businesses run and grow
  • Spanish; CMA serves clients in Spanish and English

A path to full time

Interns who perform strongly may be considered for a full-time role with CMA when one opens. It is not guaranteed; any full-time role would be a separate offer with its own terms.

A good first month

  1. Week 1. A call list of target businesses, approved by the Head of Sales, and your first cold calls made
  2. Week 2. Every hot lead and email lead answered the day it arrives
  3. Week 3. Your first in-person meetings with owners and your first booked intro calls
  4. Week 4. A clean, current pipeline you walk through at the weekly review
